It is an ok book. Having read ALL the Edge books, this seems to me to have not been written by Gilman. Never has Edge initiated a conversation with anyone, nevermind a bartender, with "hey, how are you?" type of statement. And when he thinks someone is holding or about to pull a gun on him (a gambler with a derringer) does he flip a table instead of shooting the guy dead. Because of that he gets knocked out, as if someone could sneak up on him. And if someone steals his money, he would steal a horse or kill the sherrif to get his money back, not stay in jail or negotiate for a horse. All in all, ok at best, weak at worst. I will buy the second one on the hope that it could be better but can't be worse. Failing that, it will be the last that I get.Product details

I read them all back in the 70's. This was not at all like I remembered, this was long and pretty boring. I skipped read the last half of the book to get through it. I'm 60 now, maybe my taste has changed? I may try anther one in the hope it will be more engrossing.
Thought it was a little slow for edge. With out his razor he seemed to be less edge. Other than that I liked the story.

Always have like the Edge paperbacks. Would like to read more of this 'feller'.
This is the longest Edge I've read, approximately 300 pages, and the first of the new books with Edge being in his early fifties and not viscous and immoral. He's more hero than anti-hero in his more mature years and it's a welcome change.
I've read 26 Edge books and I rate "The Quiet Gun" among my favorites.
Being significantly longer, this Edge story is more fully developed and while I enjoy the over-the-top violence of the early Edges, this story felt more real. Of course, it's still a very violent western.
